Relationship between Subjective Body Image Perception, Obesity Stress and Diet Habits according to Gender of Middle School Students

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among body image perception, obesity stress and Diet habits of the middle school students.

Methods: The data were collected by self-reported questionnaire from 304 middle school students in D city. The data were analyzed by using t-test, chi-square test, pearson correlation with SPSS/Win 21.0 program.

Results: In the subjective body image perception female perceived themselves fatter and presented ¡®skinny body type¡¯ as the ideal shape than male. Moreover, female had significantly more obesity stress than male. However, there was no significant relationship in diet habits between sexes. In the correlation among subjective body perception, obesity stress and diet habits, subjects got more stress and had bad diet habits in case they perceived themselves obese.

Conclusions: In order to prevent the problems caused by the distortion of body image perception and have the correct subjective body image perception, subjects need differentiated education of body perception formation program and dietary education.
